Moy Park Visits and the Flight to Amsterdam
The group enjoyed our final elegant breakfast at the Belton Woods Hotel in Grantham, UK. I’m sure we will miss the English delicacy of blood pudding and steamed tomatoes. After breakfast, we hopped on the bus to finally tour the OSI poultry production facilities. that we heard so much about at dinner last night.
Upon seeing a couple fun facts about the facility we tried on the usual disposable jumpsuits and hairnets. We split up into groups of five to tour the incredibly efficient facility that just recently started production in October of 2007. We began the tour with the shipment of live chickens and followed the process into processing and packaging for UK grocery stores and even KFC. We were all astonished to see the various robots that automatically detects the cuts of chicken and the robot that weighs the individual pieces of chicken and then packages it.
After the Anwich facility, we continued to follow the supply chain of poultry at Moy Park’s Grantham Further Processing Plant. There we followed the production of the traditional KFC bone-in hot wing as well as our favorite chicken nuggets from when we were kids. Before lunch, Moy Park Ltd was extremely generous to us and gave us an amazing sampling of various chicken products that they create, from fried chicken wings to ready to eat entrees! We taste tasted a range of products from the McDonalds’ snack wrap to the KFC zinger, all of which are produced at the facility. After filling up on the samples, we continued back to Belton Woods to eat our (second) lunch. There we had a final conversation with the OSI executives and asked any final questions.
We then got on the bus for a two hour bus ride to London Luton Airport and hopped on an Easy Jet plane that took us to the Netherlands, where we checked into our hotel for a quick night’s sleep.
