Brussels
Tuesday, May 15
After finally settling in to our hotel in Leuven, we explored around the
city a little bit. We started off Tuesday early with Jo Swinnen on EU
Agriculture Policy which was very insightful and gave us a better
understanding of the EU. After that we were fortunate enough to hear
Roger Blanpain talk about labor issues in Europe.
Later on we stopped by a traditional sandwich shop called "Panos" in the
heart of Leuven to grab a quick lunch. Then we took a bus to Brussels
where we met Wolfgang Munch at a private business club named, "De
Warande". This club has amazing tapestries that date back hundreds of
years back to medieval times. Mr. Munch explained to us many things
such as how the common agriculture policy works as well as the EU
Commission After talking to Mr. Munch inside the building we met
outside to talk with Stan Kone who works at the Foreign Agriculture
Services in Belgium. He specializes in Biotechnology and the process by
which imports from America have to go through to be made available for
public use.
From there we walked down into the heart of Brussels where we saw many
beautiful buildings, ate Belgium waffles, bought Souvenirs, visited the
Mannequin Peeing, ate gyros which tasted great, and met an interesting
store owner named Hussein. Overall a great day.
